Gruissan

Gruissan was originally a fishing village. Nestling around the Barberousse tower, its charm lies on its spectacular diversity of landscapes: moles of golden sandy beaches, lakes frequented by the pink flamingos, the hills of La Clape- rocky hillside of pine trees, rosemary bushes, lavender shrubs and vineyards known as the garrigue.
You can find fresh fish everyday.
In recent years, a modern yachting marina, with holiday apartment buildings around the palm lined quays, has turned Gruissan into a superb holiday destination.
There is a wide range of activities including amusement parks, tennis, Trike. There are signposted trails for walk and bike rides which links Gruissan to Narbonne Plage and Port-La-Nouvelle.

Apart from the Casino and the nightclubs, there is plenty of night life in the bars and restaurants around the marina where you can dine while overlooking the yachts.

The center of attraction these days is the beach side village of chalets on stilts. The resort offers a sailing school. If you are full of energy you will enjoy the “Mateille” beach in Gruissan which offers a lot of entertainments and aquatic sporting activities.
Right next to Mateille is the Ayguades beach, nice beach of fine sand, warm sea and safe bathing for the children.
Admire the “Massif de La Clape” (17 km long, 7 km wide, and 214 m high)- calcareous hills which offer an exceptional wildlife and flowers : the Mediterranean garrigue with its aromatic shrubs (lavender, rosemary, wild thyme, and pine trees typical of the area.
The south end of La Clape is considered as part of the Mediterranean semi-dry climate which is extremely rare in France.
